Comments
Harley: The “Original” had everything I hate on it… I Love it!!
Judith: Unique- A taste treat- All items on menu were exceptionally good-Totally New Food Experience. Look Forward to a Return Trip!!
Susan: Food-Tzatziki sauce too bland. Hot dog need to be hot even though condiments are cold. Ambience-Good combination of images on wall a place like this doesn’t really go for ambience. Chicken soulaki was a little tough. Meatball sandwich was excellent. I enjoyed everything I ate. The onion rings melted in my mouth- good women’s restroom was clean. Tables were clean. Busing for tables a little slow.
Tina M.: The décor stood out the most for me. Very nice place to eat and fellowship.
David: Best food ever! If we had snow and an Old Style beer I would be in Chicago.

Augsburg Haus

Augusta, GA 30904

“If quality scored points this place may have scored a one. The food was unimpressive and the service was actually bordering on obscenely rude. While they oiled the plates high that did not hide the lack of flavor. The only bright spot on the menu was the soup, a slow cooked braised beef concoction. I will not be going back and would not send anyone else no matter how much I was looking to ruin their day. Some people should just not be in the hospitality business.”

Tasha
“A very bad experience. The restaurant was cute, but the service was very bad. The food was pretty good but the service was bad. I called earlier that day and reserved a table for a large group, so when we got to the restaurant they had a table set for about 15. At first the service for us was great; everyone was nice and the atmosphere was really nice. The entire group was not able to come so it was about 7 of us there, so everyone ordered their food and we began sampling each others plates. When someone from the back (not our waitress) came and asked us if we could move to another table because another large group was coming, we nicely agreed to move over to another table. Well you would think they would have offered to help us move our plates and drinks-they did not! The other party was very apologetic; they seemed more embarrassed about it than the staff. So once we moved a man walked over (I later learned was the owner of the restaurant) and was very rude. At first he seemed to be nice stating that he was sorry about what happened and then turned very sour after we began to ask several questions. Someone asked why didn't anyone help us move-he said that no one asked. Excuse me! So we finished our meals our waitress barely coming over to check on us. She brought our check over and said she would be back. Someone not our witness once again brought our checks and cards back to the table and handed all of them to me and walked off. I have never in my entire life experienced anything like that before and I want to put word out about it. The food was pretty good but it's hard to eat and enjoy your dinner with a sour taste in your mouth from bad treatment and service.”

“Needs some work, the food was ok, atmosphere needs lots of work, actually did not like.”
Celeste and Susan
“Real, homestyle soulfood, served buffet style for groups. A meal cost less than $10. House specialty is fried chicken livers and gizzards. We aren’t big on gizzards, but the livers were close to perfect—well fried without being hard or greasy. We would have been happy if all we’d had was a plate of C’s authentic, tender without being bitter collards with pot liquor and cornbread. The spicy homestyle American spaghetti and meatballs has no pretensions of being real Italian, and who cares, because good is good. The giblet gravy was smooth. Our one criticism; the rice didn’t have much taste, but in its favor, was not clumpy. We went back for seconds on everything. A waiter would have been nice to refill glasses and bring more napkins. C’s used to be nightclub and it shows, but who’s looking at the décor when the food is so tasty. It they really do want to cater to a sitdown trade, the dinning room will have to be remodeled. They do a big takeout business. It’s easy to taste why.”
David
“This a good example of why one should never judge a book by its cover. While the building is not the most inviting and the service can be a little slow. If you are looking to eat the best fried chicken livers and gizzards you have ever had, then this the place to go. Perfectly seasoned and fried, they even had folks that thought they didn’t like the tasty inside bits enjoying them. Not the place to take a date to impress them, but when you are just looking for a good old fashioned country fare it is well worth the drive.”
Kathleen
“The food was pretty good. The menu was a little strange I didn’t think the combination of foods complimented each other. The place needs overhaul, out with the club décor, and a thorough cleaning. I would order again, but take-out, no desire to dine-in.”
Tasha
“The food was pretty good, I really enjoyed the gizzards. I am not sure how they normally run the restaurant but a lot of things were missing, cleanliness, service, décor, and a dining atmosphere. “

2nd Meeting September 14, 2008

Crums on Central
Elegant Cuisine
1855 Central Ave Augusta, Ga

Clauyette
The food was good, and the setting was nice.
Celeste and Susan
Delicious, well-presented eclectic cuisine with interesting combinations of ingredients and flavors. The owner’s recipe for macaroni and cheese is ambrosia. Our server was excellent, friendly but not cheeky, well-informed about the menu, and efficient. But, for the prices, we expected better serving ware, cutlery, and real tablecloths, not paper. A good selection of beer and wine, with a full bar, but they ran out of our favorite beer! They could use a couple of big round tables for larger parties. Unfortunately, the acoustics in the restaurant are terrible. When we first got there, it was fairly quiet and possible to have a conversation, but as the place filled up with people, the noise became unbearable. However, we will definitely go back—in the early evening. We want to try their brunch.
David
A refreshing change for Augusta. The service was impeccable (and we had a table of 18) and the food was delightfully fresh change. From the portabello fries and fried olives for appetizers to the braised short ribs and trout the menu was very well done and beautifully presented. Fresh pecan chocolate chip pie with homemade vanilla ice cream for dessert made a fantastic ending to a very unexpected meal. This is a great place to go for drinks and appetizers or if you are really wanting a wonderful meal served by friendly folks who clearly love what they do!

Tasha
Crums was a wonderful experience. I really really loved the restaurant décor and the atmosphere was very relaxing. There was a glass piece that was breath taking upon entering the restaurant. The service was great and very friendly. The food was very enticing! I really enjoyed the shrimp dip, the short ribs, and my cheesecake. But I tired everyone dish and wish that I could eat more. I really enjoyed myself and will be going back very soon. I loved Crums on Central!

“The food tasted great, atmosphere was inviting, and service was absolutely fabulous.”

David
“The menu was nicely varied and well presented. The atmosphere is the type of place that is nice for a date or business lunch. The service was great and the food was excellent. Once should definitely try the fried green tomatoes topped with clumps of crab meat. The Crab Cake sandwich is one of the best I have ever had this far from the Chesapeake Bay. No matter what you order, be sure and ask for a side of Cole slaw. It is the best have ever had!”

Tasha
“The River House was wonderful! I really enjoyed the atmosphere in the restaurant. The décor was beautiful and very elegant. The food was awesome. I tried a Tai Dish for the first time and really enjoyed myself. I will go to this restaurant again and will recommend others to try it also.”
